Yesterday, CK & i went to have dinner at Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre (next to Upper Bukit Timah Road) on my way back from NUS. Since there is a big traffic jam at PIE, we might as well have dinner here first before going back to my home in Sembawang.
CK ordered a bowl of mutton soup. I think he did that on purpose cos he knew i love lambs (my ex-boyfriend is born in the year of the goat) & he wanted to take revenge. Nevermind, i will eat something else...... so i opt for a Japanese meal set just next to this mutton soup store. The price of the set is S$6.80 & CK paid S$6.90 for it ($6.00 + $0.50 + $0.20 + $0.20). So we expect the store owner to return a $0.10 change. But she didn't...... we waited for a long time & also observe her every move. There is no intention on her part to give us the change at all. Now, u might say that we are being petty, but don't u agree that the basic prerequisite to doing business is honesty? So i told CK to get the $0.10 back from her, i hate to let dishonesty gets its way. When CK ask for the change, the plump lady owner looked very fed-up & reluctantly took out the change for CK. Now, obviously she knew about it, but choose to be dishonest keep quiet so people can forget about it.
Indeed, it is really a disappointment that these kinda people are all around us. But what to do? Just like a Chinese saying "One kind of rice feeds hundred kinds of people". I hate dishonesty & obviously, from now on, i will STOP patronizing this stall.
My principle in life is that 'no matter how poor u are, u must still be honest, even if nobody is looking at u'.
